Sven's Smooth Move Suggestions

  1. Talk to your Front Desk / Super

Many buildings have rules about moving times and locations. There may be restricted moving times, doors, and/or pathways that cannot be used, insurance paperwork that must be dealt with, etc. Talk to your front-desk/super (at both locations) about these rules and ask about any building quirks, such as stairs in the basement you didn’t know we had to move through.

  2. List Updates

A day or two before your move, you’ll receive an update email from us asking if there are any changes to your move. By the time you've received that email, you should have an accurate idea of what you're actually moving vs your initial estimate. The best time to let us know about any changes is via that update email. Proper self-reporting keeps your quote 100% accurate.

  3. Parking

Parking can play a major role in the time it takes to finish a move. With larger buildings, the entrance for movers is often different from the one its residents regularly use; know where the service entrance is and alert us accordingly. If you live on a narrow street you may want to consider moving during street sweeping hours so your crew doesn’t have to park a block away. If you have a vehicle, it’s wise to hold a premium parking spot for the moving truck when possible. Our trucks and vans are large, so combining your spot with a fire hydrant is also a professional level move.

  4. Be Prepared

Please empty all drawers: dressers, coffee tables, nightstands, etc. Weight issues aside, furniture items usually don’t maintain their original orientation during transport and drawer items are especially susceptible to damage and/or spillage when not upright.

  5. Air Conditioners

Air conditioners that have been recently used leak water when removed. Please remove your window air conditioners and drain them (tilt them onto their backs over a towel or in the bathtub) prior to our arrival.

  6. Electronics

Unplug your electronics; it’s much easier to remember what cord goes where when you've unplugged everything yourself. Put all the cords and peripherals (remotes, speakers, modems) together in one container so you can find them easily when putting things back together.

  7. Reusable Boxes

Movers like Reusable boxes. Reusable boxes come in standard sizes, do not collapse when stacked, and are eco-friendly.

We do not provide reusable moving boxes, but here are links two companies who do: ezbins.com and gorillabins.com

  8. Boxes

Movers like boxes. By that we mean actual moving boxes and not amazon boxes, bankers boxes, or boxes acquired from a liquor store. Moving boxes come in uniform sizes and, unlike other boxes, can be safely stacked without collapsing. Make sure you've taped both the tops and bottoms of your moving boxes securely; we’d hate for the bottom of a box to rip open while we’re loading the truck or climbing a flight of stairs.

  9. Mattresses

Many clients use mattress bags to cover their mattresses. You may purchase them yourselves, and we will put them on for you (free of charge), or you can purchase them from us for $10. (Note: We only carry up to queen sized mattress covers)
